Italian born owner and proprietor, Philip Alastra, has been in the business of beauty for nearly half a century. Philip began his career as a stylist in his hometown of Trapani, Italy where he opened his first salon at the young age of 18.

His ambition and drive for success led him to the United States where he opened, owned and operated salons throughout Brooklyn and Manhattan. After successfully building a large New York clientele, Philips’ love for the beach led him to Jupiter, FL where he opened Galaxy Hair Designs in 1988.

Galaxy is a family operated business. Philip’s wife, Marie, is an integral part of the salon’s business development. Deciding to follow in her father’s footsteps, Philips daughter, Annemarie, joined the salon as a Master Stylist.

Philip lives by the notion of incorporating talented, responsible people in the organization, believing the salon is only as good as the people in it. As his staff grew, it was his mission to continue building meaningful relationships with each of them. In an industry where employee turnover is extremely high, Philip is proud to say “the majority of our staff has been with Galaxy for more than a decade; several stylists and managers have been with the salon since the beginning.”

These internationally-educated, award-winning employees exemplify Galaxy’s pledge to excellence in every aspect of the business. The team at Galaxy Hair Designs is always on the “cutting edge” of the most current style and fashion trends and they actively participate in our industry’s most prestigious events, including modeling competitions, fashion shows, photo shoots, bridal and couture.
